This is the one and only Specialised Course in Australia, specifically developed to provide participants with an overview of the complex and diverse legal system and its agencies, emphasising the areas in which interpreters are most often engaged. This contextual knowledge provides interpreters with the ability to analyse information in order to decode it and transfer it from one language to another.

The Course provides legal vocabulary development and explores the role of the legal interpreter, ethical, cultural and other issues and barriers to effective interpreting and how to deal with them, modes and techniques of community interpreting in the diverse and complex legal system - including but not limited to the criminal justice system, civil litigation and so on.

The Course provides direct industry input from practitioners and guest speakers, enhancing experiential learning. Participants are equipped with the skills and tools to perform in a professional manner and incorporate the code of conduct in their practice.

The Course is delivered by accredited experienced practitioners who hold relevant training qualifications and experience. Service sector experts may be engaged as guest presenters to provide participants with added contextual knowledge.

Publications and reference materials about interpreting and translation are used and recommended. One such book is our very own publication titled "A training Handbook for Legal and Court Interpreters." by Mary Vasilakakos, published in 2015. This book is available for purchase. Or contact us.
